What is Domain Authority?
Domain Authority (DA) is a metric developed by Moz that scores websites from 1 to 100 to predict how well they will rank in search results. It is calculated from dozens of factors, most heavily the quality and quantity of linking root domains.
Why DA matters
DA is a comparative, not official, metric — Google does not use it. But it is widely used to evaluate link opportunities and benchmark against competitors. A higher DA than rivals usually correlates with better rankings and easier link acquisition.
How to improve DA
- Earn high-quality links from authoritative, relevant sites.
- Remove or disavow toxic backlinks.
- Build a strong internal link structure.
- Improve on-page content and technical health.
DA vs DR
Domain Rating (DR) from Ahrefs measures a similar idea using different math. Compare like-for-like: track DA against DA, DR against DR, and don’t mix tools when evaluating link quality.
