What is structured data?
Structured data is standardized code — usually JSON-LD — added to a page to describe its content in a machine-readable way: what it is, who published it, its rating, price, dates and more. It uses schemas from Schema.org vocabulary.
Why structured data matters
Structured data enables rich results (stars, FAQs, breadcrumbs, products) and gives search engines explicit facts about your content. It also feeds AI systems, helping them understand and accurately cite your pages.
Common structured data types
- Organization, WebSite, BreadcrumbList.
- Article, BlogPosting, FAQPage.
- Product, Review, AggregateRating.
- LocalBusiness, Event, Recipe.
Structured data and GEO
AI engines consume structured data to ground answers. Explicit, valid markup increases the accuracy of AI citations and entity understanding.
